Melissa Montgomery - President

Melissa Montgomery is the Texas State Grants Manager for Mothers Against Drunk Driving, a 501(c)3 non-profit.  Previously, she managed Victims Services in addition to several other MADD programs and grants.  Melissa provided resources, grief support services, case management, court accompaniment, educational presentations, and therapy activities to 47 counties.  She also provided consulting support to many community partners in law enforcement, the judiciary, other non-profits, and the corporate sector.


Prior to working with MADD, she worked in the child welfare field as a case manager for Child Protective Services in both Florida and Texas for many years.  Melissa has testified on many issues regarding abuse and neglect for the Texas State Legislature as an expert witness.


Raised in a very small town in Missouri, Melissa now lives in San Antonio with her husband Tom and several pets.  Melissa continues her passion of connecting people with great ideas - with people who can help turn those great ideas into a reality.



Philip K. Gumbs - Treasurer

Philip Gumbs is a retired U.S. Air Force Senior Non-Commissioned Officer, with over 20 years service.

Philip is currently employed with Southeastern Computer Consultants Inc., as a Senior Technical Writer.  Previously, he worked as a Senior Systems Engineer for Raytheon, responsible for the design and implementation of the Battle Control System, the Air Force's newest Air Defense System.


Philip has a long history of dedication to and mentoring many children.  He has coached numerous Boys & Girls Club youth athletic teams in various locations including Okinawa, Japan, Panama City, Florida and Las Vegas, Nevada.


Philip is a graduate of Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, married 20 years to his lovely wife Tina, who is also a USAF Veteran and they have two children.


Darren J. Pichon - Secretary

Darren Pichon is a U.S. Air Force Veteran with over 18 years of active and reserve duty.  Darren currently works for the Veterans Administration in Police Services and has been a Realtor with Texas Premier Realty for the last 8 years.


Darren has been a volunteer with various church activities and fundraising since his youth.  He also donated a lot of time at Kelly Field during the Hurricane Katrina relocation operation helping parents and children with their needs.


Darren was born and raised in Slidell, Louisiana, relocated to Denver, CO as a teen and stayed on in San Antonio, TX after his last military assignment was complete.  He is the proud father of 5 children and 4 grandchildren who are near and dear to his heart.



Sharon M. Blacknall - Executive Director

Sharon M. Blacknall is a U.S. Air Force Veteran, children's book author and motivational speaker.  Sharon founded Military Veterans Against Child Abuse after working many years in corporate management and owning other businesses.  She has been a passionate Child Safety Advocate for many years working with various organizations teaching the community about missing child prevention and child abuse prevention.  Sharon has dedicated her life to keeping kids safe and enjoys mentoring young children about making smart life choices.


Sharon is the daughter of a retired U.S. Air Force CMSgt. and spent most of her young life traveling around the world with her family.  She moved to San Antonio, TX in 1977, left after high school and returned to San Antonio in 2011 after residing in Las Vegas, NV for 22 years.  Sharon has been married for over 20 years to her husband James, who is also a USAF Veteran and is the proud mother of two children.




‚ÄčMilitary Veterans Against Child Abuse is honored to be part of a growing tide of Veterans, their supporters and communities everywhere, who have taken a pledge to stand united against child abuse and neglect of any kind.  MVACAUNITED was founded by Veterans, but we are open to anyone who is ready to fight for the right of children to grow up safe and unafraid!
